On Friday, a technical malfunction in the air traffic control system at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi led to delays for nearly 100 flights. In response, the airport authorities issued an advisory for travelers. The airport stated that due to the technical issues with the air traffic control (ATC) system, flights were experiencing delays. Their team is actively collaborating with all stakeholders, including the Dial, to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Passengers are advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest flight updates. They expressed regret for the inconvenience caused.
Details from the Airport Authority
The Airports Authority of India also released a statement indicating that the delays were due to a technical fault in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which supports air traffic control data. Controllers are currently processing flight plans manually, which is contributing to the delays. Technical teams are working diligently to rectify the system as soon as possible. They appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all passengers and stakeholders. Notably, Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), the busiest airport in the country, operates over 1,500 flights daily. Since Thursday evening, the air traffic controllers have been unable to automatically receive flight plans due to these technical issues.
Ongoing Technical Issues
According to sources, there are issues with the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) that provides information for the Auto Track System (ATS), which supplies flight plans. Due to the ongoing problems with the system, air traffic controllers are manually preparing flight plans based on the available data, a process that is time-consuming and has resulted in numerous flight delays. On Friday morning, over 100 flights were delayed at the airport, and information from the flight tracking website Flightradar24.com indicated that departures from Delhi Airport were delayed by approximately 50 minutes.
